Background and Research Interests

Iryna Stewen grew up in Crimea, Ukraine. She obtained her undergraduate education in foreign languages at the Tavriya Business School of Entrepreneurship and Law in Simferopol and in economics at the Crimean economic institute of Vadim Hetman Kyiv National Economic University in Simferopol. Before joining the University of Mainz as an Assistant Professor of Economics she received her PhD in Economics in 2010 from the University of Zurich and a MA in Economics in 2006 from the University of Dortmund.

Iryna Stewen's main research focuses on macroeconomics, international macroeconomics and finance, and banking. She is especially interested in the patterns of international equity portfolios and the macroeconomic aspects of financial integration. Her research studies regions within countries as potential paradigms for perfectly integrated financial markets.
